Remember!

In reporting Yes/No questions, we often use the verb ask or want to know, we use the word order of statements.

(Trong câu hỏi Yes/No tường thuật, chúng ta thường sử dụng động từ ask hoặc want to know, chúng ta sử dụng trật tự từ của các câu trần thuật.)

In reporting Yes/No questions, we normally use if/whether + clause.

(Khi tường thuật câu hỏi Yes/No, chúng ta thường sử dụng mệnh đề if/whether +mệnh đề.)

Example: (Ví dụ)

Anna: “Do you plan to climb any mountains this summer, Joe?”

(Anna: “Bạn có dự định leo núi nào vào mùa hè này không, Joe?”)

→ Anna asked Joe if/whether he planned to climb any mountains that summer.

(Anna đã Joe liệu anh ấy có dự định leo núi nào vào mùa hè năm đó không.)

Trong câu tường thuật Yes/No, chúng ta sử dụng “asked” hoặc “want to know”.

“Will pollution endanger the wildlife here?” Kate asked.

(“Ô nhiễm có gây nguy hiểm cho động vật hoang dã ở đây không?” Kate hỏi.)

→ Kate wanted to know if pollution would endanger the wildlife there.

(Kate muốn biết liệu ô nhiễm có gây nguy hiểm cho động vật hoang dã ở đó không.)

2. B

Câu trực tiếp ở thì hiện tại tiếp diễn => câu gián tiếp lùi về thì quá khứ tiếp diễn “was enjoying”.

“Are you enjoying your flight?” the stewardess asked me.

(“Bạn có thích chuyến bay của mình không?” Cô tiếp viên hỏi tôi.)

→ The stewardess asked me if I was enjoying my flight.

(Tiếp viên hỏi tôi có thích chuyến bay không.)

3. C

Câu trực tiếp ở thì hiện tại đơn “is” => câu gián tiếp lùi về thì quá khứ đơn “was”.

 "Is Ganh Da Dia in Phu Yen Province, Phong?"

(“Gành Đá Đĩa ở tỉnh Phú Yên phải không, Phong?”)

→ She asked Phong whether Ganh Da Dia was in Phu Yen Province.

(Cô ấy hỏi Phong có phải Gành Đá Đĩa ở tỉnh Phú Yên không.)

4. A

Trong câu tường thuật Yes/No, chúng ta sử dụng “asked” hoặc “want to know”.

“Can I take a photo inside the cave?” he said to the guide.

(“Tôi có thể chụp ảnh bên trong hang được không?” anh ấy nói với người hướng dẫn.)

→ He asked the guide if he could take a photo inside the cave.

(Anh ấy hỏi người hướng dẫn xem anh ấy có thể chụp ảnh bên trong hang động không.)

5. D

Câu trực tiếp ở thì hiện tại đơn “is” => câu gián tiếp lùi về thì quá khứ đơn “was”.

“Is the weather good in Sa Pa in the winter?”

(“Thời tiết Sa Pa vào mùa đông có đẹp không?”)

→ She wanted to know if the weather was good in Sa Pa in the winter.

(Cô ấy muốn biết thời tiết ở Sa Pa vào mùa đông có đẹp không.)

5. Work in two groups. Group A gives three direct Yes/No questions. Group B turns them into reported questions. Then they swap roles. The group with more correct answers is the winner.
