A helping hand

Have you ever asked yourself what you can do to make the world a better place? One thing you can do is volunteer and help others who may be unable to help ¹ _____. This is exactly what Nigel Courtney did. Nigel, 16, first volunteered last year by helping an elderly neighbour, Arthur, in his garden. The garden is large and because Arthur is old, he is unable to care for the garden ² _____. “I can’t  manage by ³ _____.” 'said Arthur, 'but with Nigel's help the garden now looks great once again.'

Soon, Nigel found ways to help others too: 'I noticed that many homeless people have dogs for company because they get lonely living by ⁴ _____. The owners love their dogs but they have problems getting food for them.' Nigel arranged for donations of dog food to be collected outside a supermarket and then distributed among the homeless. Does Nigel really expect nothing in return for his efforts? 'Helping other people is a reward in itself,' he said. 'I'm happy to help other people and truly believe that we should all help ⁵ _____.  Maybe one day when I need help, somebody will be there for me.'
