To interact with a digital assistant, you must use a wake word, which is a word or group of words your device uses to activate the digital assistant. Wake words include ‘Alex’, ‘Hey Cortana’, ‘Hey Siri’, etc. Once you’ve said the wake word, you can then ask the digital assistant a question, such as ‘Hey Siri, what is the current temperature?’ Digital assistants like Siri or Cortana are able to answer many general questions and offer recommendations based on a user’s profile, past behaviours, and other information. Therefore, digital assistants bring convenience, free us to be more creative and innovative. You can spend more time on strategic ideas and complex activities, and less time on tedious tasks that are better handled by the assistants you will carry in your pockets. With continuing advances in AI, digital assistants are becoming ‘smarter’ – providing more natural conversations, answering more complex questions, and offering faster and more insightful recommendations.
